About Sell Data Company
A small team that reads acquisition announcements and filings for data businesses, and the US and UK rules on the customer data inside them.
Why we built this
A data company's owners rarely see the deals that set their price: releases leave the price out more often than not, and the privacy terms that travel with the data are easy to miss.
Who will find it useful
Founders, boards and investors of companies whose product is data: data providers, data platforms and data management firms thinking about a sale.

A quote form for one question, "sell data company", that runs right on the page with no sign-up, 3 guides on related questions, a table of figures you are free to cite (see the data and how it was made), and the list of sources behind every number.
- Data company acquisition: what buyers announced, deal by deal: Data company acquisition, deal by deal: S&P Global buying With Intelligence, Clearlake buying Dun & Bradstreet, FactSet buying CUSIP Global Services, and more.
- Selling a data business: three routes and what travels with it: Selling a data business: a licence while you trade, a sale of a closing company's records, or a whole-company sale, and the privacy promises a buyer inherits.
- Is it legal to sell data when a data company changes hands?: Is it legal to sell data in a company sale? The FTC, California's privacy law and the UK ICO each set what the buyer must do with the customer data it takes.
Where it stops
- We will not quote a price for a deal that no party to it stated.
- We will not move a customer list to a buyer whose use would break the privacy promises it was collected under.
- We will not present ourselves as a broker of company shares.

Our fee is paid by the company, never by a buyer on this register: 12.5% of the deal, with a minimum, when we act as its exclusive agent for its data, or 10%, with a minimum, when its data joins a bundle; a whole-company sale goes to an adviser we introduce, and any fee a buyer pays us is credited to the company. The companies named here pay nothing to appear.
